FROM BBC SPORT
British lightweight champion Jon Thaxton says talented compatriot Amir Khan is not yet ready to challenge for a domestic title.
"If Amir fights me, he won't beat me," said Thaxton, who has his first defence against Scott Lawton on 16 March.
"I would take him out late or I might stop him earlier with a body punch.
"Experience is important, and I have plenty of that. I would use it all and it would be too much for him. We don't know yet if he can take a shot."
Olympic silver medallist Khan will fight Steffy Bull, who has been tempted out of retirement, in his 12th professional fight on 7 April.
The Bolton boxer is appearing on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe's bout with Peter Manfredo and is keen to take centre stage by fighting for major belts in the near future. |

| At least Thaxton would be a decent test for Khan, trouble is he'll be well past it by the time Khan and more importantly Warren get round to him. I'm impatient to see him tested. |

| Sounds to me like it could be happening and Thaxton is trying to generate publicity for it! :? |

Khan is quick and is a hard hitter.
He has been tested, when he went up to Ricky Hattons weight and fought that frenchman, he took some hefty shots and survived them. |

Yes the same man who had won his previous 5 fights before he met Khan. Khan who had come up a weight an got hit by a heavier man and took it.
Khan has 11 from 11
Thaxton at same point in carear had 9 from 11 with 2 defeats
Though Thaxton was fighting as a light welter, which was Thaxtons original weight. Thaxton went the distance with Ricky Hatton and was KO'd by Eamon Maghee later in his carear. His 12th fight saw Thaxton ko'd for the 1st time, when he dropped down to fight the for the southern area Lightweight title, loosing to Colin Dunne in 5 rounds of a scheduled 10. |

Khan has fought nobody yet Throb and is unlikely to for another couple of years. The fact that he fought someone heavier says nothing especially when the opponent hasn't managed to knock out any of his lower level opponents. Khan is a top class prospect and could turn out to be a legend but we won't know until he gets a good whack off a concussive puncher. The French bloke could hardly be considered that.
Thaxton has proven himself by lasting the distance with Hatton and troubling him he could easily have won their fight due to cuts what he did earlier in his career is irrelevant |

I think Thaxton would be too much for Khan at the moment, but not for much longer.
Who was that English lad who had that incredible tear up with that Aussie at lightweight the other week, maybe he should go after Thaxton |

| Graham Earl, yes that might be a good fight. It's a wonder they haven't been mentioned in the same breath before. Thaxton is talking about moving up to European level though. |

Graham Earl thats the fella, what a fight him and that Aussie gave each other.
I think that was a eliminator fight for a world title shot, so if Thaxton gets a European crown maybe him and Earl could get it on then, Thaxton does not seem to shirk from fighting good fighters as he has been in with McGee and Hatton as mentioned before. If Earl puts up a fight like that it could be a real thriller. |
