england's qualification has been taken out of thier hands by losing 2-1 to russia. there is still an outside chance that we could qualify but i think we can safley say that qualification is unlikely. alot of the blame will go to steve mcclaren but i don't think that a change of manger is the answer reguardless of weather they qualify or not. macca has just found a system that works and the team are playing well together, the best i've seen in along time and to axe the boss just when things are starting to work is madness. all that said i can't imagine a euro competition without england and to be knocked out to a penalty that shouldn't even have been given and then to sack the boss is just wrong in my eyes

as much as i see the sense in junkie's comments about not sacking McLaren, i have to disagree, strongly disagree!!

McLaren should have never been given the job in the first place, and i honestly think it was sheer laziness on the part of the FA for appointing him, when had they held out for a while longer we could have had a world class manager with reams of credentials to his name.

To be fair, we should have never let Sven go, his england record speaks for itself, and where it not for the "journalism", and i use that word loosely, in this country, and the media interest in his personal life, he would have still been the squad's manager and we WOULD have qualified.

Mclaren has in my mind , always been the second fiddle, he was at Man U, he was under Sven, and his M'boro days were'nt exactly paved in gold and glory where they?

But.................

A manager is only as good as the team he fields, and to be fair to McLaren , if the quality players he has at his disposal decide not to play to their capabilities then so be it, you can't pin that on the man in the dugout.

Come back to England Jose, your adopted country needs you!!

and to think we all moaned that under sven england 'only' reached quarter finals of major tournaments......
